Non-playing captain of the Czech DC team speaks about UniCredit Czech Open

“Undoubtedly this is the best occupied tournament in the history of Prostejov challengers and it has better staffing than other tournaments with more than double-fold financial funding. It is not only because of the tradition and a good reputation but also thanks to the care that is taken of the players in Prostejov, said Navratil. “Everybody likes it in Prostejov, there are not many such comfortable and well equipped tennis complexes in Europe.”

The Czech team plays against Argentina in the Davis Cup quarterfinals in July. “Nalbandian is not going to play, on the other hand, del Proto is, and he is one of the best players in the world keeping his firm position in the world top ten. Apart from that I must believe that Radek will recover from his injury he suffered in Prostejov. It is a pity he got injured, from the moment he arrived to Prostejov it was visible he wanted to win, he was looking forward to the tournament and I saw his first set against Cuevas, it was amazing. Radek is able to establish contact with people in the auditorium very quickly, he is a master in this and if he did not stumble and suffered a swelled ankle he would have advanced far in Prostejov for sure. And Tomas Berdych? It was not an easy match for him with Rochus, he doesn’t feel comfortable when playing against this kind of players and I believe he will also get over the dangerous Brazilian Bellucci. From the point of view of a wider DC team I have to remember Ivo Minar, he played a against the Argentinian Rotiman here and delivered a good performance, he is in the top hundred and he should be able to get higher. He is good enough to achieve it.”
